Challenge

Create and produce standout launch activations for three major Netflix series, turning fan-favourite shows into unmissable real-world spectacles.

Netflix launches are cultural moments. The challenge was to take some of its most recognisable characters and stories beyond the screen, creating bold, physical experiences that could capture attention, reward fans and generate conversation in the real world.

From giant inflatables and fan participation to hot air balloons, live appearances and touring spectacle, each activation was designed to feel unmistakably connected to the show — and impossible to ignore.

Squid Game Season 2: In the run up to xmas, we were asked to pitch ideas to announce the launch of Squid Game Season 2, but this time with a significantly larger budget. The pick of our creative exploration was a pretty simple one; giant inflatable versions of the shows famous icons, ranging from 4 to 12 metres in height. We set about sourcing a manufacturer, and pieced together a UK tour to show off our characters, along with a bit of theatre to enhance the experience on the ground. 7 locations later, it all culminated in an ‘underground’ Squid rave at Drumshed in North London with Peggy Gou on the decks.

Squid Game Season 3: Straight off the back of the success of Squid Game 2, we were invited to execute a pre-planned idea for Squid Game 3, inspired by the show’s deadly skipping rope game. The challenge was making it happen, so we set about scouting locations, designing sets and character icons, coupled with some theatrics on the ground for audience engagement. The resulting experience featured a new pair of 17 metre tall inflatables flanking the Gateshead Millennium bridge over the Tyne, a marching army of guards, and an appearance by the Front Man himself.

Response

Wednesday Season 2: During production of Squid Games 3, Netflix got in touch to ask if we had any knowledge or experience making hot air balloons… We didn’t, but given our recent escapades with giant inflatables, we had a suspicion we might be able to help, and offered to scope it out. What followed was a show of real endeavour and energy to make an incredibly short timeline a reality, with a brand new balloon being manufactured and ready to put on show at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, all in just 6 weeks..

Conclusion

From burning billboards and giant inflatables to hot air balloons with plaits, our work with Netflix has rarely involved the ordinary. Across every project, the challenge has been different, but the approach remains the same: create an idea that feels unmistakably connected, bring together the right people, craft and production expertise, and make it happen in the real world. Big ideas and extraordinary ambitions. Just how we like it.
